Fire crews worked through the night to extinguish a blaze at a house.

At about 11pm last night (November 27), a team from Carlisle East Fire Station was called to a property fire at Skinburness, near Silloth.

Once there, the crew found a large detached house had caught fire.

An aerial ladder platform was used as a water tower to battle the flames, using a water relay from the sea to provide the water.

The team also used lightweight portable pumps, ladders, main jets, hosereels, small tools and one set of breathing apparatus while tackling the blaze.

After five hours of hard work, the fire was fully extinguished.

The building was fortunately unoccupied, and nobody was hurt during the incident.
