THE LATEST Covid-19 figures show that there have been 1,004 positive tests in Cumbria within the last seven days.

The county's rate of infection in a seven day period is 200.8 per 100,000 of the population.

The data was revealed by the UK Government.

Cumbria stands in stark contrast to areas of Greater Manchester such as Bolton, Bury and Oldham where the number of cases recorded in that period was over 1000 respectively.

In the North West, the last seven days to Tuesday have seen 28,398, a rate of 386.8 per 100,000 people.

Nationally, 20,412 people are returning a positive Covid-19 test every day. The total number of people who have tested positive stands at 1,233,775.

Since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, there have been 256,947 cases in the North West.

Since the initial outbreak, Cumbria has seen 8,420 cases, an infection rate of 1,684 per 100,000 people.

Deaths within 28 days of a positive test stand at 595 daily for the UK, 50,365 in total.

Cumbria has seen 478 people die within 28 days of a positive test since the start of the pandemic.

The North West has seen 8580 people die from Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic.

England has the highest case number and rate of infection in comparison to devolved nations.

A cumulative look at the rate of infection shows that the virus slowed somewhat during April to July at the height of lockdown. Cases spiked in July and have continued to increase rapidly from then onwards.
