Great Orton Primary School sits in the picturesque village of Great Orton, 5 miles outside the city of Carlisle. Behind this peaceful façade, beats the heart of a vibrant and happy school, proud to be at the heart of the community it serves.

Originally built in 1859, the School has been extended and refurbished to provide a 21st Century learning environment indoors and out. Set in spacious wooded grounds, children enjoy learning in our Early Years outdoor areas, vegetable garden, wildlife area and playing on the wooden pirate ship, log trail, climbing wall and football pitch.

Great Orton Primary School has 25 pupils on roll from the ages of 4 to 11 years. Our children are proud of their school and have recently created a video Welcome on our school website. This level of engagement with technology is a common theme at this school.

wanting to increase our school community to include Nursery provision for 3-4 year olds. Our School Governors are currently consulting with the local community via the school website and Facebook.

The Staff at Great Orton Primary School are a dedicated and talented team who ensure the academic success and pastoral care for each and every child. We know our children well and take time to listen and build positive relationships with them.

The children are at the ‘heart’ of our school and are involved in making decisions to improve our school. The School Council have been busy consulting with their classmates and with our school catering manager to create a new school dinner menu. This resulted in a ‘Bonfire Themed’ Lunch on the 5th November, which was enjoyed by all, especially the sticky toffee pudding!
