Copeland Council has been highlighting the work of its partner agencies throughout October, which is designated "domestic violence awareness month".

The national awareness month was first promoted in 1981 by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence.

Victim Support is one of the organisations that Copeland Council works with.

It offers emotional and practical help to those who have been affected by crime, including domestic violence, throughout Cumbria.

A Copeland Council spokesman explained: "It is an independent charity and you can access support regardless of whether you’ve contacted the police, and no matter how long ago the crime took place.

"It will help you for as long as it takes to overcome the impact of crime.

"All independent domestic and sexual violence advisors are fully experienced, trained and accredited to provide a quality, safe and effective service."
