Carlisle’s largest museum has been praised for its Covid-safe approach after reopening.
Tullie House Museum, which reopened to the public in September, impressed health and safety auditors contracted by Carlisle City Council.
Councillor Stephen Higgs, culture heritage and leisure portfolio holder, said the audit concluded the museum was an example of “best practice” in health and safety terms.
Mr Higgs, in his report to fellow city councillors prepared in advance of next week's full council meeting, explained that visitor levels are what is to be expected given the impact of Covid-19, if not better.
"Visitor levels are ranging between 30 to 50 per cent of last year’s numbers, with 30% the expected industry standard advised by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport.
"Visitor feedback on our Covid-safe measures has been very positive," he added in his report.
