AN armed robber threatened staff late at night in a Workington store.

Police are investigating a robbery at the McColl’s store on Harrington Road.

The unknown offender entered the shop at approximately 11pm on Wednesday before threatening two members of staff with a knife.

The offender then left the shop with a small amount of money.

He is described as a white male, around 5ft 10ins and of medium build. He was wearing dark clothing.

No injuries were reported in the incident and enquiries are ongoing.

Paul Scott, the ward councillor for both Allerdale and Workington town council said: "St John's is a really safe ward, there are a lot of good people working hard there.

"It's always disheartening when you see this behaviour and it doesn't cast a good light.

"Hopefully someone has seen something and can contact the police."

Detective Constable James Graham said: “I would like to reassure the public that incidents like this are rare in West Cumbria and we have a team of detectives working to identify the offender.”
