There were some quirky sporting feats in Cumbria in 1992, with Kenneth Lamb becoming the county's youngest karate black belt, while in a potentially even more ferocious contest Whitehaven School hosted a pancake race.
The year also saw the community spirit of the county evident as volunteers from the Help Romania group prepared for a trip to the country, Newman School's PTA donated to the school and Oliver's Shoes received a good service award from The Cumberland News.
