PLANS for an indoor motorbike arena can now go ahead after planning was approved.

An application was submitted to Allerdale Council's planning department to seek permission for the change of use of the shed to an indoor motorbike arena alongside associated operations including changes to the external appearance of the shed, the formation of a car parking area and the installation of a package treatment plant and soakaway.

These plans have now been given the green lighting and the change of use can now start at the site in Kelsick near Abbeytown.

It in the noise statement it is noted that: "The intentions would be to operate on Thursday, Friday and Saturday afternoons.

"There would be a total of four electric motorbikes on the track at anyone one time.

"Petrol powered bikes would not be used on the track.

"The track would be entirely inside the building, incorporating bends, straights and jumps over a dirt course."

A comment for a neighbour on this plan supported the change of use.

The comment reads: "Being a bike lover myself and living in the area I think that this is an excellent idea for fellow bike enthusiasts to enjoy the sport in a safe and controlled manner."

Planning was approved with some conditions, some of these include operating between the hours of 10am and 8pm Monday to Sundays; only four electric bikes on the track at any one time; no external operation of the bikes outside the building; and access gates, if provided, shall be hung to open inwards only away from the highway.

The development must be started within three years.
