The number and distribution of litter bins in Brampton is set to be discussed at the town's next parish council meeting.

The issue of littering in Brampton was raised at this week's meeting of Brampton Parish Council.

A number of councillors raised concerns at Tuesday's meeting that there has been an increase in littering throughout the town in recent weeks.

Councillor and vice chairman John Harding highlighted how there has been a noticeable increase in recent weeks in instances of face masks being dropped in the town.

"Face masks are everywhere at the moment," Mr Harding said.

"This is something new that we've never seen before."

Councillor Joanne Spears also raised that she had noted an increase in littering, particularly around the area of St Martin's Church, since the beginning of the new school term.

An update on action taken by Carlisle City Council to address littering in Brampton was also presented to the council.

The city council's operations manager said that it is "disappointing that members of the public discard masks recklessly, and hopefully enforcement will help with this".

The operations manager also provided assurance that littering will be actioned immediately by the city council as soon as it is raised with them.
