Emergency services were called to reports of a collision, which was causing a build up of traffic on the A596.
Delays were expected as teams from North West Ambulance Service and Cumbria Police attended the incident at Maryport, after being called at 8am today.
It is believed the collision involved a car and a lorry near Risehow Industrial Estate.
A woman said to be in her 50s was found trapped in her car following the accident, and was quickly freed by the crews.
She was taken to hospital, but it is unknown how serious her injuries were.
A spokesman for NWAS said: "We were called to reports of a road traffic collision between two vehicles at 7.55am.
"Two drivers were assessed.
"A female driver was initially trapped in her car, but we managed to get her out and assess her, and she was sent to hospital to be treated."
