The Lakes version of Monopoly which includes properties such as The Mail, has proved so popular that is going for a second print run and may even go to a third.

The edition hit the shops in lockdown during the summer, and according to producers Winning Moves UK, it is selling so well that it may be heading for the game's number one spot.

A number of new Monopoly versions, set in different towns, have been launched by the company over recent years, but sales of the Lakes version have been 'phenomenal', both in the UK and overseas.

Kay Thompson, from Winning Moves UK revealed a rush was on for a second print run, and if sales continue then it may have to be printed for a third time ahead of the festive period.

She explained: “We sold out completely to retail within a few weeks.

"We thought when it was released that there would be enough games in the shops to cover this Christmas, but we have now had to go on a rapid second print-run. A third one is a possibility too.”

Ms Thompson added that sales have not just been regional but global.

She said: “As everyone knows The Lakes is an international tourist hot-spot and whilst this year it has been pretty much locked down to the world the Monopoly game dedicated to the

Lakes has flown all over the globe."

Everything from the game pieces to the properties that people can buy have a flavour of the Lakes.

Normal pieces such as 'the dog' or a battleship are replaced a motorboat, a motorhome and an umbrella in the Lakes version.

The board also sees all of the multi-coloured classic property sites like Mayfair and Park

Lane handed over to Lakes landmarks such as Windermere, Coniston, Aira Force and Scafell Pike.

The game is available online of from a range of high street stores, with prices ranging from £25 to £29 with different retailers.
