Residents are being thanked for their recycling efforts despite the coronavirus lockdown.

Recycle Now are using their annual Recycle Week to thank people for continuing to recycle despite this year’s challenges.

Statistics released by the Recycle Now campaign show throughout lockdown the UK has become more environmentally aware, with nearly nine in 10 households saying they ‘regularly recycle.'

More people are now prepared to change their lifestyles to help the environment: 73 per cent, up from 68 per cent in 2019.

While 93 per cent of UK households say they believe ‘everyone has a responsibility to help towards cleaning up the environment.'

“During the coronavirus pandemic we’ve been overwhelmed by the support of local residents,” said Nigel Christian, Carlisle City Council’s environment portfolio holder. “Our refuse and recycling crews received gifts and we were sent lots of lovely hand-crafted messages.”
