Permission has been granted for the establishment of new hair salon premises in the north of Carlisle.

Plans to convert an existing garage into a hair salon have been given approval by Carlisle City Council.

The salon will be located on Scotland Road, a primarily residential area, and will be by appointment only.

It will be run by one person, who is not taking on any further staff.

Opening hours for the salon will be 9.30am to 2.30pm on Tuesdays,10am to 8pm on Thursdays and from

9am to 4pm on Saturdays.

Recommending the planning application for approval, the city council's planning officer said that the business is a local enterprise which "provides a beneficial service to the local community and contributes towards the local economy."

The officer also stated that "the proposed business will serve up to a maximum of 12 persons per week and all appointments would be by booking only.

"Taking into consideration the scale and nature of the proposed business alongside its operating hours, it is not envisaged that the proposal will have any detrimental impact upon the residential amenity of the area."
