GUIDANCE has been issued to the public on visiting Workington’s market following the coronavirus pandemic.

The market returned to Pow Street in Workington on June 17 with measures in place to protect shoppers from the spread of Covid-19 but the steps they need to take are being reiterated.

The public are asked to use hand-sanitising facilities provided, with traders encouraged to provide their own. Objects that are touched regularly are receiving extra disinfecting. Signs are in place to remind people of social distancing, with all Allerdale markets running at a reduced capacity.

The market is also occupying space on Upton Street during the crisis. Mike Johnson, acting leader of Allerdale said: “We know how important the markets we run are for our local communities, which is why the the council has worked hard alongside our partners to reopen them. We can assure residents and visitors alike that keeping people as safe as possible is our number one priority, therefore we ask that everyone respects the various safety measures we have put in place and helps our popular markets return smoothly.”
