A COUNCIL is calling on businesses to apply for their discretionary grants with just two weeks left before the deadline. Businesses have until August 10 to apply for the second round of Allerdale Borough Council's Local Authority Discretionary Grant Scheme.

The borough council has been awarded £1.125 million in Government funding to support businesses and registered charities in Allerdale. Funding support following the financial hardship of the coronavirus pandemic is available to: bed and breakfast providers who pay council tax instead of business rates as well as retail, hospitality or leisure businesses and registered charities or community interest companies. Manufacturing businesses with a rateable value above £51,000 can also apply. Only businesses trading on March 11 are eligible for the grants scheme.

Businesses that applied for the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme are still eligible for the funding.
