LONGTOWN Auction Mart will be hosting ram sales to help fill the gap caused by the cancellation of this year's Kelso Ram Sales as a result of Covid-19 restrictions.

C&D Auction Marts have said although the cancellation is 'disappointing', they have made comprehensive arrangements for the marketing of rams which would otherwise have gone to Kelso. On Monday, September 7, the firm will be holding a sale on their premises in conjunction with Border Livestock Exchange who are major auctioneers of Texel rams at the event. Some 500 Texel shearling and ram lambs, normally sold by the two firms in rings 18 and 19 at Kelso will be brought together under one roof at Longtown to offer an exceptional selection of Texels to regular and new buyers. On the following Sunday, September 13, Longtown will host a large sale of accredited and non-accredited Crossbred rams, together with accredited pure-bred Charollais and Texel rams and rams of other breeds. Many of these will be from flocks who traditionally consigned to Kelso with C & D Marts. Entries for the two sales close on August 17. 'Inevitably these sales will be held under more onerous conditions than is usual but the auctioneers are working hard to ensure that everything is in place to ensure a compliant and safe environment.'
