A fundraiser to help get a little boy to Singapore for life-saving treatment for his leukaemia has been met with tremendous offers of support to help receive the target.

Two-year-old Stanley Dalton from Carlisle has T-CELL Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia.

His only hope of survival is to travel for treatment in Singapore, because there is no treatment available in the UK.

In a bid to help raise the £500,000, David Mitchell, who was the ball boy the day Jimmy Glass scored the winning goal against Plymouth keeping Carlisle United in the Football League, has decided to auction off the signed gloves Jimmy gave to him in 1999.

Mr Mitchell hasn’t fully decided how he is going to sell the gloves yet but is trying to raise as much money as possible by selling them.

He explained: “Ultimately I think the best way to do it is to put it to auction then that will raise as much funds as possible.

“I’ve known Georgia, Stanley’s mum, for 10 years. I worked with her and her dad at Royal Mail and when I seen this thing with Stan I just thought I’ve got the gloves there.

“They’re probably worth a bit of money and it’s better them going to a worthy cause.

“It’s a treasured item, it’s not just a piece of Carlisle United history, it’s a piece of football history. It’s a big deal more to my dad than anything because he is a lifelong Carlisle United supporter but I had a chat with him and it’s for the best just to raise some money and they’ll go to someone who will give them a good home and raise some cash for Stan.”

In March 2019, Stanley’s parents, Georgia Brecken and Lee Dalton, from Carlisle, were given the heartbreaking news their son had leukaemia. They were rushed to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle where further tests confirmed the diagnosis.

Unfortunately, the T-CELL strain that Stanley has can’t be treated in the UK, only the C-CELL strain can.

Stanley spent months from March to October in the RVI unable to go home because he was too ill.

It was in October his parents were told to take him home and make memories.

Since launching the fundraiser, the total has slowly crept closer to the £500,000 target with celebrities like Tyson Fury, Katie Price and Gaz Beadle, most known for Geordie Shore, backing the campaign on Twitter and Instagram.

In a Tweet, Gaz said: “#SaveOurStan please try donate anything even if it’s £1, if not retweet and try share. Let’s get this going everywhere.”

A Facebook group dedicated to Save Our Stan has also been set up with people from across the county signing up to raise money to help the family edge closer to the total.

The family has been overwhelmed by the generosity of donations and are really thankful.

It is trying to keep people updated on the Facebook page in between hospital visits.
