Fast food fans are rejoicing after Mcdonald’s re-opened branches in Carlisle, Whitehaven and Workington.
McDonald’s announced that it was re-opening the three branches yesterday for drive-thru and ‘Mc-Delivery’ orders - news which was music to a lot of people’s ears.
People flocked to their nearest branch to try and bag their favourite option on the menu.
One person queuing outside the Kingstown branch said: “It keeps my child happy, I’m getting her a happy meal.
“She’s been going mad for one.”
Others had a more to-the-point reason to be there.
“I’m here for scran,” said one driver.
The queues outside the McDondald’s in Carlisle stretched all the way to the former Border Cars site, with a relentless stream of people wanting to get their lunch from the restaurant.
Some people were also just interested in seeing what would be happening at the drive-thru site.
Rachel Brown, from Carlisle, said: “I used to work here so I wanted to see the chaos.
“I’ve missed a Big Mac.”
Jordan said: “I went to Asda and thought that I might as well go to McDonald’s.
“I’m getting a double cheeseburger.”
Staff were stood in protective kit outside the branches, providing instructions to the drivers on how it would work - from a safe distance.
The McDonald’s car park itself wasn’t open, but people were sitting in their cars in the empty spaces surrounding the popular shop.
It was a busy day of trade for the Workington branch too, with a queue of hungry west Cumbrians stretching down Derwent Drive towards the Morrisons Petrol Station.
A new system was in place with stewards directing traffic from the side of the road. A member of staff added that it was a busy day from the first hour of opening.
