A man was taken to hospital after he jumped off a bridge over the River Eden.
He was treated at the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle following the incident on Monday.
The man had jumped from the suspension bridge in Rickerby Park and had a suspected broken ankle.
It prompted police to warn people about the dangers of jumping off bridges into water, after calls were also received about members of the public jumping into the River Caldew from the White Bridge at Dalston.
A police spokesman said: “Due to the recent dry weather the water may be a lot shallower than it appears and if you jump off the bridges, then you are putting yourself at risk of a serious injury.”
