A 24-hour prayer initiative is aiming to provide hope to the county as it navigates through difficult times.

From 10am today until 10am tomorrow, people from churches across Cumbria will be praying for the NHS, Cumbria County Council staff, Cumbria Constabulary and school pupils among others.

Prayer requests have been submitted to the Pray24Cumbria initiative that range from specific cases to broader county-wide issues.

It originally began as a Penrith-only initiative last month, but it proved to be popular so Canon Gary Cregeen decided to open it up to the entire county.

It aims to provide hope to people and organisations across Cumbria.

All denominations are invited to take part in the 24-hour event.

People who want to take part are asked to grab an hour slot by signing up online, however smaller slots of 10 minutes throughout the day are also available.
