One of Cumbria's most striking landmarks became even more striking in a show of appreciation for the hard work of NHS staff and other key workers.

Lowther Castle, south of Penrith was illuminated in a spectacular display of lights and lasers on Thursday evening, in an eye-catching display of thanks for NHS staff, care workers, community volunteers and everyone else involved in the response to the coronavirus outbreak and all the disruption that it has caused in the community.

The illumination formed part of the national Light It Blue campaign, which sees landmarks across the country illuminated in blue light as a show of thanks for the hard work and sacrifice made by those responding to Covid-19.

The Lowther Castle illuminations were made possible with the contribution and expertise of Lowther's events partners, Just Beam It Lasers, as well as SVL Lighting.

Both companies are based in Carlisle.

A spokesman for Lowther Castle said: "Lowther Castle is really looking forward to welcoming visitors back to the castle and gardens when it is safe to do so."
