The first female cadet regimental sergeant major in more than 10 years has been appointed by Cumbria Army Cadets
Lucy Charlton, 17, has been named as the new cadet RSM for the Cumbria Army Cadets.
She joined the cadets when she was 12-years-old and says it has taken her to important historical sites across Europe.
“Both my brothers were in the cadets and I saw all the exciting things that they did on weekends and detachment nights,” she explained.
“Both have later gone on to join the British Army and are still currently serving, following the footsteps of our dad, who was also in the army for 10 years.
“My mum, Wendy, is a community nurse so it all matches up really well.”
When Lucy finishes her A-Levels at Nelson Thomlinson School, in Wigton, she hopes to study to be a nurse.
She would then like to join the Queen’s Royal Alexander Nursing Corps.
