Cumbria Police have warned residents in the county of a scam currently in operation involving the supposed sale of kittens and puppies.

The scam involves the advertising of puppies and kittens for sale on social media platforms and selling platforms.

A spokesman for Cumbria Police explained: "The victim will be asked to pay a deposit to secure the purchase and will be told that the pet will be shipped to them due to lockdown restrictions.

"Requests for funds to cover costs will be requested and each time the funds are sent another request will come.

"To prevent falling victim to these scams always do your research before buying, trust your instincts and choose a payment method wisely such as a credit card or Paypal.

If you have been a victim report of this or any other scam, contact Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040.
