A JUDGE told a Cleator Moor man who attacked his former partner as she held her child his behaviour was disgraceful.

During a virtual 'Skype' hearing before Carlisle Crown Court, Lee Clark, 31, admitted two common assaults.

Prosecutor Gerard Rogerson described how the defendant, of John Colligan Walk, Cleator Moor, carried out the first attack on Saturday, February 15, just before mid day.

While he and the woman were together on Coach Road, Whitehaven, he twice pushed her over, and threw a bag at her.

He also threw a phone at her, and it hit her on the head.

The second assault happened on March 19, when Clark let himself into the woman's Frizington home without being invited.

Appearing to be drunk, he kicked a hole in a door. As she held her child, he punched her in the back.

"She described how she feared for her and her child's safety," said Mr Rogerson.

Defence barrister Brendan Burke said the defendant's only mitigation was his admissions of guilt.

Jailing Clark for six months, Judge Nicholas Barker told him: "You were acting in a disgraceful way."

The defendant also admitted causing criminal damage to the door. The prosecution offered no evidence on an allegation that Clark sent a threatening electronic message to the woman he assaulted.
