JOBS could be in the pipeline if plans for a new Penrith builders' merchant get the go-ahead.

An application to Eden District Council has been lodged to construct the store on the vacant two acre site, at the Eden Business Park, Cowper Road.

According to documentation submitted by the developer proposals could create 15 new jobs.

Plans were submitted last month with the council stating that the public consultation period runs to May 23.

The developer is listed on the application form as the Hull based Venture Business Space Ltd.

The application includes a "trade counter and ancillary storage, external storage of materials, parking lighting columns, perimeter fencing, hard and soft landscaping and new site access."

In the proposals the developer said that: "Proposals are considered appropriate to the site given the overarching planning permission that exists for the land.

"The site was previously used in agriculture.

"It may be considered that the northern boundary requires enhanced planting to mitigate the landscaped impact and to demonstrate that proposals maintain and enhance the existing biodiversity assets.

"The Local Plan requires that commercial development shall demonstrate where practical that it takes into account integrating renewable energy technology into the scheme."

The business park is already home to a number of similar businesses such as building and hardware supplier Screwfix among a number of other commercial and industrial units.

Other company's at the site include Tweddell & Slater, civil and structural engineers, and Lloyd, a new and used industrial machinery seller.

The News & Star tried to contact the developer but was unable to speak to them before publication deadline.

On the Companies House website the developer's business is listed as "buying and selling of own real estate" and "letting and operating of own or leased real estate".
