The trust which runs the hospital where a member of staff has been confirmed to have coronavirus has moved to reassure the public.
North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle, this morning confirmed that a member of staff tested positive for Covid19 yesterday - as reported here.
The woman, in her thirties and living in the Carlisle area, had returned from a trip to northern Italy, although was not thought to have visited a 'red zone'.
The News & Star understands her partner has also tested positive.
A spokeswoman for the hospital trust said this morning: “The trust can confirm that member of hospital staff has tested presumptive positive for Covid19 following a trip to northern Italy.
"On returning from the trip the member of staff sensibly self-isolated and did not come into work or have any contact with patients.
"We can assure the public that the risk remains low. The trust is operating normally and there is no need to cancel any appointments.”
Public health advice remains for people to stay calm and concentrate on good hygiene - particularly hand washing.
