FUNDING is set to be available for community groups to hold their own 'Big Lunch'.

Workington Town Council is offering up to £300 to groups for the project, which is part of a national campaign run by The Eden Project.

Their aim is to improve happiness and wellbeing of people by helping to build more resilient and better connected communities. They encourage you to come together and celebrate your community.

A Big Lunch can be anything from a small gathering to a larger street party. The official Big Lunch date is June 6/7 but events can be held on any date, they just need to be open to the public and free.

Coun Carole Armstrong, chair of the town council’s culture committee, said: "We really want to encourage people to come together and join in with The Big Lunch. We really hope to see a number of these fun events taking place across our town.We feel it is a very worthwhile cause and this is why we wanted to open up a funding pot for Workington."
