The Whitehaven branch of the Samaritans has made an "urgent" appeal for volunteers.
The west Cumbrian branch of the national charity, which provides a 24 hour telephone service for people in states of acute crisis, says that volunteers are "urgently wanted".
Full training for those who want to get involved will be provided.
An information session outlining the work done by the Samaritans will be held today, starting at 2pm.
Interviews for those interested in becoming part of the team will be held on February 29 and March 1, with training beginning on March 10.
For further information, contact the branch on 0333 335 0414, or via volunteer@wcsams.plus.com.
