A year of celebrations for Beethoven will start in Carlisle.

It will be the great composers 250th anniversary and the orchestra of Sage Gateshead will be spending the year performing the complete Beethoven symphony cycle.

Pupils from Trinity School have been working with players on Beethoven, instruments, classical music and the orchestra.

The students have been writing melodies that will be put together in a piece by workshop leader and composer Michael Betteridge he said: “Using Beethoven’s third Symphony as inspiration, the students have been creating a new piece of music that they can perform themselves alongside members of RNS before the main concert at St Cuthbert’s Church later this month.”

The first show will take place at St Cuthbert’s Church on January 24 at 7.30pm.

Tickets are available from the Sands Centre, online, in person or by phone.
