The Environment Agency has issued a flood warning for large stretches of the west Cumbrian coastline.
The strong winds battering the county today will make waves along the west Cumbrian coast more extreme, in combination with the high spring tides.
The warning, the Environment Agency says will be reviewed this afternoon, extends from St Bees Head to Millom.
An Environment Agency spokesman said: "Onshore flooding to roads and some properties along the coast at Braystones, Nethertown and Coulderton may be affected.
"People are advised to take care in coastal areas and take action as needed.
"We are closely monitoring the situation.
"Our incident response staff are operating defences.
"Please be careful along beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads as large waves and sea spray could be dangerous."
A flood alert is also in place from Silloth down to St Bees, as a result of the same weather and tide conditions.
A further alert is in place from Gretna down to Silloth.
The Environment Agency says it is "closely monitoring" the situation.
