The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for Carlisle, Penrith and the eastern half of Cumbria.
The weather monitoring agency has issued the warning as a result of the strong winds currently battering the county.
In place until 6pm today, the warning extends from Carlisle and Penrith eastwards, across to the north east coast.
The warning also takes in south east Scotland, extending as far as Edinburgh.
For the period the warning is in place, the Met Office says to expect: "Probably some bus and train services [to be] affected, with some journeys taking longer."
"Some short term loss of power and other services is possible."
