POLICE have issued a further appeal to help find a missing Carlisle woman who has been missing for over a week.

Janet McElrone, 51, has been missing for eight days.

A spokesman for Cumbria police said: "It is known that Janet McElrone went to Morrisons in Carlisle at about 1pm on December 23.

"She had previously left her address on foot. Officers are concerned for her welfare."

Before this sighting Janet was seen in the Etterby area at 6.30am on the 23.

Janet is described as a white female with shoulder-length blonde hair, 5ft 3ins and of medium build.

She also speaks with a Canadian accent.

Multiple police cars, including police dogs, a helicopter, plus two fire engines from Carlisle East and West, and another two fire engines from Penrith all assisted in the search on December 23 at night.

.Police have been assisted by Cumbria Fire and Rescue, the Coastguard as well as the National Police Air Service during extensive searches.

Firefighters continued their searched behind the Sands Centre on Christmas Eve in hopes of finding Janet.

A new clothing description for Janet was issued at the weekend.

It was believed by Cumbria police on Sunday that Janet may have been wearing a dark knee-length jacket with a fur hood and black adidas trainers.
