Eco-friendly Allerdale Council has introduced a ban on plastic ducks. Our readers had their say on the News & Star website and Facebook page.

Well done Allerdale! Now we need a national ban.

Alan Sinclair

Why not just ban everything, and get rid of the council, that would save on hot air?

Larl’un

Let’s ban everything, when was the last time you saw a trout with a rubber duck in its mouth. Do Allerdale have a massive fleet of diesel vehicles and wagons? Let’s ban them also.

Dogs, sheep, cattle... All paddle about in rivers and streams picking up plastic rubbish. My dogs picked two miniature plastic ducks out of the stream in Curwen Park in the last three days, easily small enough to choke on. Numerous herons and swans also use the same stream.

Well done Allerdale. There are plenty of creative ways to raise money for good causes, celebrate events and even remember loved ones without scattering even more harmful trash across the environment.

It is a good start because basically it is fly tipping, throwing things in the river. Maybe the same can be done on streets with rubbish dumped after going to takeaways.

Just a small point though, council owned waterways? Are those the same waterways that keep flooding because of poor maintenance?

Ian

Every race I’ve been to all the ducks are collected and kept for the next race.

Well done Allerdale Council we all should be helping to save this wonderful world we live in and protect our wildlife. If you must play with your rubber ducks then do it in your bath.

This story is totally Quackers!

Can’t use the ducks now, send them to landfill. Use some more carbon to make some new wooden ones.

Lee Williamson

Had a duck race on the river here a few weeks back, I watched men ploughing through mud to retrieve those caught up from the start to the finish. No duck left behind.

Susan Weaver

Plastic ducks should be kept in the bath and the fair.

THE Conservatives have won the Workington seat for the first time since 1979.

Congratulations! Well done that man!

Mrs Bell

Well done Workington, now we can leave the EU as we wanted.

The people voted Hayman in to do a job for them... They’re (were) her boss.

If your boss tells you to do something, and you ignore it and do your own thing, you’ll get a warning, like the May local elections..

When you keep going against the people, your boss, voting against Brexit at every opportunity, expect to be sacked.

It’s as simple as that.

In this day and age “social media” is a great barometer for gauging public opinion. It was obvious for a long time Corbyn was the wrong man, regardless of the Christmas list style manifesto. Time and again they were alienating their voters in leave constituencies nationwide.

You do what the people tell you to do. You don’t ignore them and tell them you know better, and you know what’s good for them... Maybe you’re essentially right, but that’s an arrogant dismissive way to treat your constituents.

Take heed Jeremy and Sue.

I don’t know who you work for but if my boss told me to do something really stupid I wouldn’t do it, and I wouldn’t get the sack for it either.
