Firefighters were called to action after a fire in a family home.
Crews from Carlisle East and West Station were called about 2.30am to Burgh-By-Sands.
A family of four, to adults and two children, had been alerted after the smoke alarms sounded.
A spokesman from Carlisle East station said: "At approximately 2.30am appliances from Carlisle East and Carlisle West were mobilised to reports of a property fire at Burgh-By-Sands.
"On arrival, crews discovered a fire in a wall cavity adjacent to the chimney of a wood-burning stove.
"Crews gained access to the chimney using small tools and extinguished the blaze using a hose reel and chimney gear.
"This incident highlights the importance of having working smoke alarms in your homes.
"We would encourage everybody to not only ensure they have smoke alarms fitted, but also to check them regularly."
Firefighters were at the home for two hours.
