Cumbrian landmarks have been recognised as iconic British symbols as tourism companies promoted the region in China.

The Ullswater Steamers, Muncaster Castle, and Peter Rabbit were among some of the symbols representing ‘cool Britannia’ and British culture at a recent trade event in China.

Rachel Bell, head of marketing and development at Lake District Estates, said: “The event was a huge success.

“Being able to talk face to face with so many key travel agents and tour operators about not only visiting Cumbria, but the reasons to stay longer and explore further was invaluable.

“We are delighted to be working with Marketing Manchester to further promote the region to this rapidly growing market.”

Other icons to represent the country at the Destination Britain China and North-East Asia 2019 trade event were: The Beatles, Manchester United, the Union Jack, and red post boxes.

The event, held in Xi’an, provided opportunities for tourism companies to promote Cumbria to tour operators from China, Hong Kong, Japan, and Korea by showcasing the icons and how easy it is to travel to major northern cities.

“We are delighted to be working with Marketing Manchester to further promote the region to this rapidly growing market,” added Rachel.
