Delays this morning on the M6 were caused by two different car crashes.

Police were called to a report a car had crashed just north of Junction 39 on the M6.

Officers were called just after 8am to recover a red BMW from the central reservation.

The BMW was recovered just before 10am

Just before 8am Firefighters were called to a crash close to the Shap junction after a car crashed on the hard shoulder.

On-call firefighters from Penrith helped two people from the car who suffered minor injuries.

A police spokesman said: " Visibility is very poor south of junction 40 for Penrith, also approaching the same northbound.

"Ensure your lights are dipped if needed use fog lights.

"Most importantly reduce your speed."
