PUPILS at Seaton Junior School are celebrating after winning four trophies in a music competition.

The school’s choir won the junior choir and the hymn singing sections and was overall junior winner and overall choir winner at Workington Musical Festival last week.

Around 80 Year 4, 5 and 6 children took part in the prestigious annual competition and this week performed the winning songs in front of fellow pupils during an assembly.

Choir conductor Kat Kinsella said: “I’m very proud of the children – they worked really hard with lots of practice at home and at lunch time.

“We’re all thrilled. It’s a big achievement.”

Music teacher Mike Milner said one of the prizes was an honours certificate.

Mr Milner, who accompanies the choir on the piano, said: “This is the first time we got one – I’ve done this for 25 years and we’ve never got one, so it was very nice to receive it.”

Year 6 singer Caleb Comp said he was very happy about the trophies.

And fellow pupil Grace Withfield said: “I felt a bit nervous because there were a lot of people listening to us.

“I’m very proud that we won.”

The festival takes place every year at the Carnegie Theatre.
