Police are warning drivers to take care after a number of crashes round Cumbria.
Traffic is building up on the M6 after a crash leaving a vehicle upside down on the southbound carriageway.
The M6 from J40 A66 Penrith to J39 B6261 Shap currently has one lane closed.
At about 7am there was a report of plastic-type debris covering a section of the A66.
Motorists are urged to drive with care between Appleby and Kirby Thore.
A spokesman for Cumbria police said: "We are currently dealing with a number of collisions on the main arterial routes in North Cumbria.
"Today has been a frosty start, so please drive to the conditions you are presented with."
"M6 North and South bound are the main areas of concern.
"Visibility very poor south of junction 40 for Penrith, also approaching the same northbound. Ensure your lights are dipped, if needed use fog lights.
"Most importantly reduce your speed."
