A woman needed medical treatment after coming into contact with a hazardous substance.

Firefighters were called to a property in Lamonby about 9am.

Crews from Carlisle East Station, Penrith and Lazonby wore chemical protection suits and breathing apparatus to enter the property.

A spokesman for Carlisle East said: "On arrival, crews treated one female casualty for the inhalation of an unknown substance.

"Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and chemical protection suits were then committed into the property to investigate and identify the substance, which was then contained.

"Crews ventilated the property using a positive pressure ventilation fan, and were then decontaminated."
