A former Greggs boss is the guest speaker at an event next month in Cumbria.

Ian Gregg took over the family business from his father in 1964 and grew it to more than 1,600 branches across the UK.

He retired in 2007 and will be talking about his experiences with the famous brand at the LA23NET networking event at the Rheged Centre, near Penrith, on November 12.

Grant Seaton, of The Cumberland, is chair of LA23NET.

He said: “It is a real honour to be welcoming Ian Gregg and we are looking forward to learning more about him and of course the iconic Greggs bakery.

"Ian is testament to the consistently high calibre of LA23NET speakers and with such a conveniently central location, we expect the turn out to be particularly high.”

Attendees will not only hear from the Greggs man himself but enjoy some of Greggs most famous bakes, a gin or two and network with decision making business leaders at one of the area’s most unconventional business-focused event.

LA23NET attracts top speakers at unusual venues and previous events have been held in courtrooms, airports and even on a train.

Sponsored by The Cumberland, Edwin Thompson and NXT Recruitment, the events are open to all business leaders and held on the second Tuesday of the month.

Tickets for LA23NET with Ian Gregg are £19.60 including VAT, food and complimentary bar.
