Allonby School has proved it is worth its weight in recycled clothing.
The small school, with only 24 pupils, has won the Salvation Army's Recycle with Michael project for Cumbria.
Pupils, with the help of school governors, parents and members of the community, filled 32 bags with 205kg of clothing and shoes.
That represented the heaviest load per child in Cumbria.
Children knew nothing about winning the competition until Michael himself stopped by on Tuesday morning.
School administrator Melanie Walker said the pupils were thrilled to meet this larger than life character.
Recycle with Michael is a nationwide project being run by the Salvation Army that can raise money for your school and for charity whilst raising awareness about recycling.
Allonby school will receive a share of the money earned from their clothing drive but Mrs Walker said they have not been told the amount yet.
"It is an annual event. I am sure we would do it again next year after this win - and also because our school supports good causes."
