POLICE on both sides of the border are warning social media users about a scam that has hit Facebook.
Have you been contacted by a 'friend' on Facebook and advised to enter a prize draw?
Dumfries and Galloway Police are aware of this scam that involves fraudsters creating duplicate Facebook accounts, before contacting the victim via Facebook messenger.
The victim is said to believe they are talking to their friend, who advises them to take part in a prize draw/charity giveaway as they had won.
To enter, the victim is asked to send Amazon gift codes to the fraudster.
A spokesperson for Dumfries and Galloway Police said: "This is a scam, always be dubious of anything that requires voucher codes to enter. Double check you are speaking to who you think you are if contacted out of the blue over the internet or phone."
