THE A6 at Carleton has been closed both ways due to a 'serious accident.'
Emergency services, including firefighters from Carlisle East and West fire station were called at about 5.15pm to a two-vehicle road traffic collision on the A6 just out Carlisle City Centre, near the Golden Fleece services.
The road has been closed between M6 J42 - Carlisle South - and the Cocklakes turn-off.
A spokesman for Carlisle West fire station said: "One casualty was extricated from vehicle using hydraulic cutting equipment.
"Close work with our colleagues from the ambulance service helped take the casualty into medical care rapidly."
The air ambulance is believed to have been there.
Firefighters were on the scene for over an hour.
