The A7 through Longtown remains partly closed after a section of the town's main bridge collapsed yesterday.

A section of the south side of Longtown Bridge collapsed, prompting police to put in place an emergency closure of the road across it while engineers checked to see how safe it was.

The closure has now been partly lifted - traffic is allowed to pass along one lane, controlled with a temporary traffic light system.

It is unclear at present how long this traffic management might be in place.

Bus services through Longtown were temporarily re-routed around the town, but are now operating as normal once again.

One Longtown resident told the News & Star that traffic is currently flowing smoothly across the bridge.
