Police detectives are appealing to the public for help in tracking down a suspect after a robbery at a branch of the Spar supermarket.

The Gretna branch of the Spar shop on Central Avenue was robbed just after 9.30am on Tuesday this week.

A spokesman for the Dumfries and Galloway Police Division described the suspect as: "A man around 6ft tall, skinny build, wearing a blue hoodie, black scarf with a white line and grey trainers with red laces."

The man fled the shop after stealing a small amount of cash.

Dumfries CID Detective Inspector Dean Little, who is leading the investigation into the robbery said: "This is a worrying incident which is extremely unusual for the town of Gretna.

"Whilst nobody was hurt, it has clearly left the staff working in the store at the time extremely shaken.

"I currently have a team of detectives working on this investigation and CCTV is in the process of being gathered and reviewed.

"In order to assist with the investigation I would be extremely keen to hear from anybody who was in the area at the time or who knows the identity of the person responsible.

"Please contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident number 4077 of September 24, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
