A SLIMMING World consultant who didn't start running until she was 60 completed a 10k run last weekend.

Janice Caryl - consultant for Belah Community Centre and St Mark's Church, Belah - completed Carlisle Half's 10k run on Sunday with Jo Gray, a consultant in Currock and Slimming World member Karen Raynor.

The second Carlisle Half Marathon, took place on Sunday, organised by Ian Milburn of IM Running Events.

As well as the half marathon, the event also included a 10k run, a 5k run and a family fun run which is supported by Kingmoor Park in conjunction with Carlisle Youth Zone.

Janice started running three years ago when she joined Slimming World and last year completed the Great North Run, but has not ran since she injured her ankle last October.

She said: "It was brilliant. It was a fabulous achievement.

"It has inspired us to all keep going."

The biggest challenge was for both Jo and Karen who had never done any running challenges before the event.

Completing the course in one hour 29 minutes, Janice is extremely proud of how herself and other members performed on the day.

"It was fabulous, such a big achievement," added Janice.

"It was an amazing atmosphere and the last mile was tough but getting in the last spring was great.

"It's a fabulous sense of achievement."

Since doing the run all three ladies have been inspired to keep on going.

Janice and Jo have been out running during the day and on an evening and Karen has decided to join Border Reivers running club.

"In group today other members told us we had inspired them to get up and exercise," continued Janice.

"It changes your outlook on things. It's not about being competitive, it's about the fun, camaraderie and ultimately the health benefits and sense of wellbeing."
