FAMILIES enjoyed a totally roar-some day out - helping disaster victims in the process.

Keswick Lions held a walk in the park and fun day at Fitz Park which boasted a distinctively Cumbrian twist to support the needy worldwide.

Activities included everything from gurning to climbing walls and even a game of giant chess.

Members of the club hope the money raised on Sunday will help support The Lions Club International Foundation which supports disaster relief, diabetes, vision, youth, hunger, childhood cancer, the environment and humanitarian causes.

President of Keswick Lions Club, Diane Cannon, said: “It was a fantastic idea.

“We’re leaning towards being what is known as a model club.

“We’re one of the first model clubs in the country, this type of club is where we pledge to donate significant amounts of money to the Lions Club International where the money will go directly to disaster funds all over the world.

“We wanted to have a big push to raise some extra money which could be dedicated towards that fund.

“The money we normally raise is sent out to local charities, local causes and national charities we had to have another big event to raise a bit more money and raise the profile of the club.

“Keswick needed something in the community, we haven’t got a carnival anymore.

“It was nice to have something to replace that.

“We hope the walk in the park and fun day will be an annual occurrence.”
