A 70-year-old woman is in a serious but stable condition after a crash with a Citroen van.
Police, collision investigators, ambulance and air ambulance teams were scrambled to the junction of Nelson Street and Denton Street shortly before 7pm yesterday.
The pedestrian, who is from Wigton, was flown by air ambulance to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.
An air ambulance was seen landing on the Richardson Street football pitch.
The woman's injuries are not thought to be life threatening, said police.
A force spokesman confirmed she is in a serious but stable condition.
Cumbria Police closed off Denton Street both ways while emergency services dealt with the scene.
Anyone who witnessed the incident in question is asked to contact PC 2414 Brockbank on 101, referencing incident 207 of August 9.
