A COASTAL first responders team is delighted to have received a donation that will help buy much-needed new equipment.

Silloth First Responders were handed a cheque from a fundraising day at Solway Holiday Village in which they raised £407.74.

Peter Gilmour, team coordinator for Silloth First Responders, said: “We were invited to a colour run and fun day at Solway Holiday Village by Liam Tanner, the entertainment manager.

“It was a great day with lots going on.

“It’s amazing to receive donations like monies raised by the staff and customers at The Solway Village to who we are very grateful to.”

The money raised at the event will be put towards replacing all of the team’s older defibrillators.

They are looking at replacing about 12defibrillators in total. Six have already been purchased and replaced along with new training equipment at a cost of more than £10,000.

Earlier this year Silloth First Responders started to fundraise to replace the defibrillators - some of which are nearly 17-years-old.

New ones were placed around the town in the boxes which are opened by a code given by the ambulance service.

Once restocked, mugs, bags and other goods will be on sale around the town which will help pay for the new equipment and towards the running of the team who are all volunteers, working for free.

Supporting local organisations is something Solway Holiday Village does often, last weekend it hosted a festival of water in support of Silloth RNLI.
