The A66 is closed in both directions between Cumbria and north Yorkshire after a crash.

Emergency services are currently at the scene, including North Yorkshire Police.

The closure is in place between the A1 and the A67 (Bowes) due to a crash involving a car.

Highways England's advice is as follows: "Traffic travelling eastbound should follow the solid diamond diversion symbol if travelling onwards for the A1 northbound, or the solid square symbol if travelling onwards to the A1 southbound.

"Exit the A66 at Bowes and take the A67 until Barnard Castle. Cross by Bridgegate and continue through the town and at the outskirts of Barnard Castle, continue along the A67 by taking a right at the fork.

"Continue along the A67, passing through Winston until arriving at Darlington. At the roundabout with the B6280, follow one of the below depending on your direction of travel:

- A1 northbound traffic - turn left at the roundabout onto the B6280 until reaching the A1 at J58 (Burtree)

- A1 southbound traffic - turn right at the roundabout and stay on the A67 to Blackwell, then join the A66 until you reach the A1 southbound towards Scotch Corner.

"Westbound traffic is being diverted via local routes, however if travelling from further afield, it's recommended you take either the M62 or A69 cross-Pennine routes instead."
